New One, Plus One | In-Home Newborn Family Photography

As a former member of the 2 Under 2 club, I can remember the way it felt to bring home a new baby while still caring for your first baby. Simultaneously exciting and wonderful and scary and exhausting and overwhelming… the fact that I remember it so well made this session very dear to my heart. Well, that and the fact that Lauren said to me at the very beginning how much she loved my relaxed approach to photography and had been looking forward to this session for so long. Yessssssss! Music to my ears!!!

I know we’re going to create awesome photographs together when my clients can tell me they’ve actually been looking forward to their session. Coming into the whole thing with excitement is key! I’m not saying you can’t also feel nervous and/or stressed because that’s certainly very common - hello wildcard little kids who can say/do/eat/destroy anything at any moment!!

BUT! If at least one of the many emotions prior to our session is excitement, we’re in really good shape!

I’m so happy to have been invited into this family for a morning and to have gotten to document the blossoming love for the newest member of the family. From personal experience, I know these first weeks home with a new one, plus one are a COMPLETE BLUR. It makes my heart happy to know we bottled up some of these early moments for the future. <3

If you want to bottle up some of your own family’s love and wonder and joy, CONTACT ME right here!! I’d love to do this for you, too!

Ok, gonna say it one more time, just in case :) If you want to bottle up some of your own family’s love and wonder and joy, CONTACT ME right here!! I’d love to do this for you, too!

When You Need It the Most | Mechanicsburg PA Family Photographer

Last year I started a project where I took a self portrait of me and my three kids together once a month. I will admit I didn’t finish out the year with my goal, but that’s not the point! The reason I share is that in the time I was doing those self portraits I learned something important.

The days I was struggling.
The days I didn’t want to be in a photo.
The days I felt like a bad mom…

those were the days I needed to be in photos with my kids the most. When I took the time to be creative (for me creative time is always soul-filling!), to be happy (forced or not!) and to focus on the kiddos (without any distractions), I almost instantly felt better.

But that’s not where the goodness ends, because later I actually SAW the photos.

I saw their little arms around me.
I saw their smiles.
I saw MY smile.

I saw how much they love me, imperfections and all. Not every individual moment of motherhood feels amazing, it just can’t! So, having tangible proof that I can look at and SEE THE LOVE… It’s priceless!

Often times we think the best times for photos is when the kids are perfectly happy and we’re in a great place feeling good about our weight and our hair and our home. But I don’t know. I think the best time for photos doesn’t actually exist. Every time is a good time for photos. It’s easy to agree to them and sign up for them when you’re rockin at life. But don’t count out the magical healing powers love-filled images to have on an open heart that could use a little TLC. Just sayin!

summer capsule | Carlisle PA family photographer

It was a gooooood summer. So many fun memories with friends and family fill my mind when I think about. But also, so many fun memories working lots of amazing people too. I know everyone’s always saying how lucky they are to have this job, but ya know what? It’s because we really are so lucky as photographers. Our job has plenty of hard parts, but it has so many perks. The people we meet, where we get to work (hello gorgeous summer sun!) and the service we get to provide to families - what more could we ask for?!?

This summer I tried out some Magic Hour Mini Sessions for the first time and couldn’t be more thrilled with the results if I tried. It was the best decision of the summer, without a doubt. And that’s saying something because my family did an ice-cream tour of Carlisle where we taste-tested ice cream from all the local creameries…

A few of my summer favorites are below. Thank you Summer of 2018, for all the goldeny delicious memories.

all good things | Carlisle PA family photographer

Green grass.
Twirly dresses.
Sweet kisses.
Squeezy hugs.
Belly laughs.
Golden sun.

And bug bites.

This session had EVERYTHING good about summer (and one bad thing!) all wrapped up into one delightful family love fest. I couldn’t have left this shoot feeling more in love with green grass, twirly dresses, sweet kisses, squeezy hugs, belly laughs and golden sun.

Magic hour minis were a new thing this year. I wasn’t sure how it would go, but I was optimistic. Needless to say, I think these bad boys are here to stay! Although there aren’t any more at this point, you can be first to know about next year’s mini sessions by subscribing to my email list (here!) or following me on instagram (here!).

And you can always always always count me in for a full session in the fall/winter/spring (and summer!) magic light too. Contact me (here!) and we’ll get the ball rollin for ya!

It wasn't that bad... | Camp Hill Family Photographer

Maybe one of my best reviews ever - "It wasn't that bad!" :)

Ya know, it's easy for me to go on and on about how fun it is during my sessions and how it's a great opportunity to just love on your people, but the truth is: not everyone loves it. Some people actually dislike it. And I know they aren’t bad people - it’s just that we all like different things. (I mean, I've even heard rumors that there are people in this world who don't love chocolate. WHAT?!?!?!?) I guess it just goes to prove that you could offer up the sweetest, most delicious and creamy chocolaty treat in the world, but you'll always have people who don't want it. (And FYI: I’ll take theirs, is that’s the case.)

So, getting a "It wasn't the bad!" from a really kind guy, who loves his family but doesn't love family photos was a total win! And I know he wasn't trying to be rude when he said it. I couldn't have asked for a more cooperative model actually! He was just being honest. He probably dreaded family photo day, but after an hour or so with me in the house, he could happily report "It wasn't that bad!" - victory!!

As soon as he told me, we all laughed and then I said I was going to put his review on my website. And I did. Because it really is one of the best compliments I could ask for :)

Even though I slightly tortured some members of the family, it wasn't totally awful. In fact, for at least 1 of us, it was a freakin' blast!!! Because this family loves one another so big and they didn't hold back on any of it for even one second while I was there. Because of their amazing hearts, boy did we get some gooooood stuff from their session! Like an ENDLESS BUFFET OF DELICIOUS CREAMY CHOCOLATE good.
