all good things | Carlisle PA family photographer

Green grass.
Twirly dresses.
Sweet kisses.
Squeezy hugs.
Belly laughs.
Golden sun.

And bug bites.

This session had EVERYTHING good about summer (and one bad thing!) all wrapped up into one delightful family love fest. I couldn’t have left this shoot feeling more in love with green grass, twirly dresses, sweet kisses, squeezy hugs, belly laughs and golden sun.

Magic hour minis were a new thing this year. I wasn’t sure how it would go, but I was optimistic. Needless to say, I think these bad boys are here to stay! Although there aren’t any more at this point, you can be first to know about next year’s mini sessions by subscribing to my email list (here!) or following me on instagram (here!).

And you can always always always count me in for a full session in the fall/winter/spring (and summer!) magic light too. Contact me (here!) and we’ll get the ball rollin for ya!

I know it seems like people are always saying “This might just be my favorite session ever!” And while I find myself starting to type that all the time, I always have to delete it because I start to worry that I’ll make someone else feel bad. Like, if THIS one is my favorite session, what about the one I just did last week? Are they going to think I don’t like them anymore? And does me picking favorites make this some kind of dumb competition for my love? Because I can’t have that! No way. Not gonna do it. Can’t have a favorite. Won’t have a favorite!

I mean, truth be told, I realize that no one else really cares that much, but I do. And I’d like to be clear: I love all my clients and all my sessions for different reasons. There is not one single session that’s exactly like the other, so it’s easy to love them all.

This one, for example, took place in Perry County where I grew up. I often get teased for being from such a rural location, but I’m so Perry Country proud that I don’t ever care!!! Being here and shooting this session made me nostalgic for my childhood. It was so gorgeous. The family was so humble and kind and loving. The kids were free to run and play and be free. IT WAS AMAZING. It almost made me want to up and move my family to the country.

Almost. When I remembered that we had to drive AT LEAST 30 minutes, if not 45, just to go grocery shopping as a kid, I decided that I’d just like to do more sessions in good ol’ PeCo so I can soak up the country family goodness while I’m there and then go back to my 10 minute grocery commute (that still feels so long some days!).

Anyway...  you won’t catch me saying that this is my favorite session ever, but I absolutely WILL say that I 110% loved every second of this family session and totally adore these people!

Do you live in Perry County, too? PLEASE HIRE ME to photograph your family in your home! Do you live somewhere other than Perry County? It’s ok. PLEASE HIRE ME to photographer your family in your home... I love where I grew up, but I love lots of other places too. :)

Golden Trees and Sister Kisses

Another holiday mini session that really, truly could not live on my computer any longer. We were gifted a gorrrgeous winter evening. I vaguely remember it being cold, but goodness these photos don't seem anything other than warm and fuzzy. Maybe it wasn't actually cold?! I don't remember!

I do remember these wonderfully smily little girls and their beautiful doting parents and driving home with a giant smile on my face even though I was all alone in the car and totally forgot to even turn on any music. I didn't notice the silence or mind the traffic because my heart was full to the point of bursting and my head was spinning thinking of all the sweetness I was able to capture for this lovely mama (who also happens to be a photographer!!)!

See for yourself!

Take a peek at my other family work HERE and then say HELLO so we can start chatting about how we can work together to create something special for your family!

Christmas Mini Sessions | Carlisle PA Family Photographer

Are you sad about putting away your Christmas decor? The house always feels so different and so bare when everything gets stored away again. It's a little funny to me because we live our our home 11/12 months without the Christmas decorations, but somehow in the course of 1 month we get so used to the Christmas stuff that it becomes the new normal and we miss it when it's gone... in just 1 single solitary month!

Anyway, I took down the last of my Christmas decorations today - the holiday cards on display in our kitchen. They're the last to come down every year because they bring so much joy to our day. Getting to see the beautiful, smiling faces of our friends and family each morning, afternoon and night? What could be better?!?

I bet a lot of the photos on all those pretty holiday cards come from mini sessions (whether they're done with me or other photographers) so I wanted to share some of mine to help give you that Christmas fix you're missing now that the decorations are gone! :)

Ocker's Christmas Tree Farm was the most lovely spot for these sessions and I can't thank them enough. Not only were they welcoming to me and all the families, my family found the perfect tree for our home at their farm! Double win!

I've written before about my mixed emotions regarding shooting mini sessions (which you can read about here!), but I will say, as long as those cards keep coming, I'm pretty sure I'll always find a way to incorporate mini sessions into what I offer... they're just too special!

Mini sessions are only offered once a year, but full sessions are offered ALL DAY EVERY DAY! Contact me (HERE!) to set up a session for your amazing bunch!

Mini Sessions | Carlisle PA Family Photographer

Ok, I’m going to tell you a secret. I am a photographer almost entirely for selfish reasons. I mean I sure do believe in the amazing gift of freezing time and preserving memories for other people. Boy oh boy am I thankful my photographs can do that for you! But the real reason I continue doing this work is because it makes ME so incredibly happy. Something about finding connections within families, coaxing out the sweet, silly and tender moments, watching parents and kids love on one another and getting to manipulate light in order to tell a story - it fills my bucket. I love it. I love the way it makes me feel. So I do this for you, but mostly, I do it for… ME.

In order to really get in there and find all the treasures buried within your family, I like to take my time so we can chat and play and take breaks. I like to meet at your home or your favorite places so that everything in the photos means something to you and so that you are surrounded by all kinds of warm fuzzy good vibes that will help you relax. Do we have to have ALL those things in order to make beautiful photos? Heck no! I just prefer when we can. As you can imagine, mini sessions are tough. I mean, I love a good Christmas card photo as much as the next person and I BEAM with joy when my kitchen is filled with cards featuring the photos of happy families I got to photograph. Buuuuuuut from a personal, artistic, creative perspective, they’re challenging. 20 minutes is plenty long to get you a holiday card photo, but in my heart of hearts, I want to give you MORE.

The reason I photograph families is selfish. The reason I do mini sessions, however, is the opposite. I do them because I know you want the perfect holiday card. I do them because not everyone’s budget allows for a full session. I do them because you want to get photos multiple times a year. Honestly, I do them because you ask me to do them. And I am happy to serve you in that way. Truly.

So please oh please oh please don’t let me talk you out of a mini session. Below you can see a buncha examples of fall mini-session loveliness. BUT ALSO, please don’t mistake minis for the real-deal, full-on, in-your-home, surrounded-by-your-favorite-people, love-fest that is a FULL session.

I’m all for ordering appetizers as your meal now and again, but you’ve gotta make sure you treat yourself to the full enchilada sometimes too!
