Heyyyy! You’re probably expecting me tell you all kinds of fancy professional stuff (like I’ve been doing this for nearly a decade, that I have dozens of happy returning clients from one year to the next and that my work has been featured on Let the Kids, Life and Lens Blog, Camera Mama and more), but gosh I just don’t care as much about those things as I care about you.
Instead, I want to ask you a question: Do you ever tell your kids that they can’t eat cookies for breakfast while simultaneously trying to hide the mouthful of cookies that you’re eating for breakfast? Ok, that’s not really what I wanted to ask, but now that you know my secret, answer these. Have you ever been watching your kids do something totally ordinary and felt your heart swell to the point of bursting? Have you ever wanted to immortalize the small moments that happen inside your home that no one else really knows about? Well I sure have. And I push myself every day (ok ok, most days) to document the things I never want to forget.
I’m not gonna lie, I want to remember their cute little Christmas outfits, but more than that I want to remember the way my tiny little loves explored the world and, in doing so, discovered who they are. My goal is for them to look back in 20 years and see their parents and their home and their favorite things and remember what it felt like growing up in our family. I mean, sure, they will probably wonder if wearing black leggings was some kind of dress code back in the 2010s, but what I hope they’ll feel is the warmth, joy and oodles upon oodles of love seeping from the pages of our photo albums.
Look, it’s me!
(Proof I get in front of the lens too!)
THANKS TO BROOKE SCHULTZ, RAEGAN CHRISTIANSON, BRIANNA WILBUR, ADDIE ESHELMAN AND MY TRIPOD FOR THESE TREASURES OF ME AND MINE.
